THE NOKI HOUSE OF SUSTAINABILITY (NHS) installation and fashion presentation evokes the need, greed and voyeuristic desires we have, for contemporary globalised branding.
The Masked ball-ox party element will surface the levels we go to to wear the brand to be 'somebody' in this heavenly democratic situation we find ourselves at the turn of a new century.
The art brand of NOKI customisation is a statement against mass produced fashion branding by creating customized clothing from recycled fashion brands.
The mere taking, DIY style, of a 'found' second hand garment, recycling and reworking it into a 'one-off' piece of clothing, creates the NOKI-ART removing from the equation the mass production of street fashion, bound for the end of season dump.
JJ - the Noki artist/designer lives and creates his clothes in London and Brigthon. He works for local recycling company LMB that provides him in return, a studio space in the Vintage for Sale scout hut in Brick Lane London, providing plenty sustainable canvases to customize, with contributions from Traid-London. His clothes are sold in Kokon to Zai in Paris and London and in selected shops in Japan. He has shown two collection at Fashion East, during London Fashion Week. This year his work has been exhibited at ‘Fashion V Sport’ at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and at ‘SuperHeroes: Fashion and Fantasy’ at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Noki is not up for sales. What he wants, instead, is for people to copy his work, "because everyone can Do It Themselves." if you cant come NHS knocking................
The Noki House of Sustainability (NHS for short), is a collaborative fashion house, whose work is created by customizing, reusing, and re-abusing second hand garments, creating them into one of a kind, sometimes to a couture sense of re-creation. For a one-off democratic generation...
