Giles Round exhibition at White Cubicle marks the unveiling of a new sculpture Everything is Repairable and a new wallpaper and typeface Prefont, both designed by the artist specifically for the cubicle.
Giles Round is a London based artist; he works with various media including sculpture, installation and video. His practise exists between minimal pop conceptualism and melancholic sentimental romanticism. Last December he projected his video Hallucinating Love at Yama, a 6m x 9m lumacom screen atop of the Marmara Pera Hotel in Istanbul. A recently commissioned neon sculptural piece Time Just Falls Away was exhibited at the Norfolk House Music Room in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Mr. Round has also participated in group exhibitions such as Unborrowed from the eye, John Conelly Presents, New York (2007); Glory Hole, Architecture Foundation, London (2006); Life Without Work (with Luke Dowd) at the Whitechapel Project Space, London (2006); The Figs Play Death, David Kordansky Gallery, Los Angeles (2006); avaf’s Homocrap installation in Ecstasy, MOCA, Los Angeles (2005); and The Black Album, Maureen Paley, London (2004). Round also curated (with Tom Humphreys and Jacob Dahl Jürgensen) the Sculpture Garden at the Phoenix Garden, London (2006). With Mark Aerial Waller he also ran mythical Taverna Especial. He has also created the Taverna Especial font. With Eva Stenram, Round has also organised legendary events and parties like Friday 13th:Dawn of the Valentine Dead, Halloween 2: The Look of Love and Look Back in Angora: An Evening with Edward D. Wood Junior. Mr. Round is generally to be seen around East End pubs with his loyal friend Mr. Simon Popper.
The occasion also celebrates White Cubicle’s new website http://www.whitecubicle.org
Website designed by http://www.cc-ch.net/
The White Cubicle Toilet Gallery measures 1.40 by 1.40 metres, is located within the Ladies Toilet of the George and Dragon, and works with no budget, staff or boundaries. White Cubicle has become one of the East End’s most exciting and ambitious exhibition spaces, presenting a discerning programme of international manifestations as an antidote to London’s extremely commodified art scene. Past exhibitions have shown the work of Deborah Castillo, Gregorio Magnani, Butt Magazine, Federico Herrero, Terence Koh, i-Cabin, Steven Gontarski, Pixis Fanzine, General Idea and avaf, Basso Magazin, and Carl Hopgood.
Special thanks to Richard Battye, Liliana Sanguino and Elkin Calderon.
