While the art crowds are in the Venice Biennale, George and Dragon Public House is honoured to invite you to the opening of BUTT magazine’s exhibition inside White Cubicle Toilet Gallery. Measuring 1.40 by 1.40 metres, located within George and Dragon’s Ladies Toilet, and working with no budget, staff or boundaries, White Cubicle has become one of the East End’s most exciting and ambitious exhibition spaces, presenting a discerning programme of international manifestations as an antidote to London art world’s straight art scene.

BUTT is a pink coloured, pocket-size, fantastic magazine for and about homosexuals. Founded in 2001 by Jop van Bennekom and Gert Jonkers, it is published and printed in Amsterdam. BUTT’s appearance at the George and Dragon seemed only natural and bound to happen. Both BUTT Magazine and George and Dragon have redefined masculinity while providing platforms for wider forms of homosexual expression beyond traditional gayness and the international standarisation of homosexuality. It is in BUTT’s pages where many of George and Dragon’s favourite customers have appeared: Gregorio Magnani and Douglas Stewart (BUTT no.5), pin up Calvin Holbrook (BUTT no.9), while cover stars Jonny Woo (BUTT no.10) and Lovely Jonjo (BUTT no.12) regularly perform and DJ at the George. BUTT collaborators Wolfgang Tillmans, Andreas Larsson, and Marcelo Krasilcic (when in town) are also regular customers; furthermore any George and Dragon patron or barman is a potential perfect candidate to be a BUTT star.

BUTT’s exhibition will feature selected images from the pages of BUTT magazine inside George and Dragon’s White Cubicle Toilet Gallery.

For the night of the opening only, the men’s toilet will have its light switched off, transforming itself into a dark room and giving friends and customers a further opportunity to get to know themselves better.

BUTT magazine newest issue, number 13 will also be presented during this night.

Sicilian otter Seb Patane will provide the soundtrack for the night.
